Terms of Service

The agreement

These terms explain the agreement between you and InnerNote AI Co. Ltd when you use InnerNote. We have kept them direct. By using the app or innernote.ai, you agree to these terms, and to the Apple Media Services terms or Google Play's terms where you use the App Store or Google Play.

1. Who we are

InnerNote is provided by InnerNote AI Co. Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, number 12750353. Questions about these terms can be sent to sophie@innernote.ai. Security reports should go to sophie@innernote.ai.

2. What InnerNote provides

InnerNote is a private journal and guided audio practice. It lets you write, read your journal again, notice locally generated patterns, and follow structured listening courses. Features may change as the app develops, but we will not quietly change the ownership of your writing.

The witness is an optional AI feature. When you ask, the page you are writing is sent to be read, and the witness may reply in a few sentences. Its replies are automated reflections, not advice, and the witness is not a person, a therapist, or an emergency service. It does not always reply: it can rest, and the Privacy Policy explains when.

InnerNote is not a medical service, diagnostic tool, emergency service, or substitute for professional care. Its journal prompts, witness replies, and audio practices do not promise to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any condition. If you need urgent help, contact the emergency services where you are.

3. Who may use it

You must be old enough to agree to digital services under the law where you live. InnerNote is not directed to children and is not offered as a children's app. You are responsible for keeping access to your device and your App Store or Google Play account secure.

4. Your journal and your device

Your journal entries, P.S. notes, local signals, preferences, and course progress are processed locally. No InnerNote account is required, and InnerNote never sends the journal database or its encryption key to InnerNote's servers. The only journal text that leaves the device is a page you choose to send to the witness and, once you allow it, the sentences InnerSelf sends to be read for a reading, as the Privacy Policy explains. A page you type at innernote.ai/write is sealed in your browser so that only your phone can open it, and held, still sealed, on our server until your phone collects it or for 30 days. Deleting the app or losing the device may remove the only usable copy unless you have made an export.

Apple's backup or transfer mechanisms may carry an encrypted copy of the journal database and its Keychain-protected encryption key. InnerNote cannot access, read, or recover either. Successful migration depends on your Apple settings, the transfer method you choose, and successful completion of Apple's process.

The app lock is an additional privacy control, not a guarantee against every form of device compromise. Keep iOS and InnerNote up to date and protect the device with a strong passcode.

5. Your account

An account is optional. You may sign in with Apple, with Google, or with your email address and a 6-digit code we email you, or use InnerNote without signing in. An account holds your sign-in and your email address only. It does not hold, back up, or restore your journal: your pages stay on your phone whether or not you sign in.

You are responsible for keeping access to the Apple ID, Google account, or email address you sign in with. You may sign out, or delete your account, at any time in Settings. Deleting your account removes your sign-in and email address from our server and leaves your pages on your phone; Delete all data is what erases them. A subscription bought on innernote.ai ends at the close of the period you have paid for; one bought through Apple or Google is cancelled with them, and deleting the account does not cancel it.

6. Subscriptions and payment

You can subscribe in three ways: in the iPhone app through the App Store, where Apple takes the payment; in the Android app through Google Play, where Google takes it; or on innernote.ai, where Stripe takes it for us and works out any VAT with Stripe Tax. The price, the period and the renewal date are shown before you pay, and a subscription renews at the end of each period until you cancel it. Your first seven days include everything. After that, a subscription keeps writing, replies, InnerSelf and InnerWork open; without one, your pages stay yours to read. No payment details are needed for the seven days. Without a subscription after them InnerNote is read-only: every page, P.S., earlier version, InnerSelf reading and session rating stays yours to read, search and export, and nothing new is written, no reply is given, InnerSelf forms no new reading and InnerWork does not play, until you subscribe. A page left open when the seven days end stays as it is and is never lost.

To cancel, use the subscriptions in your Apple account settings for an App Store subscription, or Payments & subscriptions in the Play Store for a Google Play one. For a subscription bought on innernote.ai, use innernote.ai/account, which opens Stripe's billing page. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and access stays open until the end of the period you have paid for.

Refunds for App Store and Google Play purchases are decided by Apple and Google under their own policies, and you ask them for one. If you subscribe on innernote.ai, the law gives you 14 days from the day you subscribe to cancel. By subscribing you ask for the subscription to begin straight away, within those 14 days. If you cancel within them, write to sophie@innernote.ai and we will refund what you paid, less an amount in proportion to the time the subscription was open. Your right to cancel ends once the service has been fully provided. Nothing here affects your other rights under consumer law.

RevenueCat records whether a subscription is active, whichever way it was bought, using a pseudonymous app-user identifier and the purchase, entitlement or renewal metadata from Apple, Google or Stripe, so InnerNote can decide whether access is open. RevenueCat never needs your journal text. When the free days or paid access end, you keep reading, searching and exporting exactly as before; writing, replies, InnerSelf and InnerWork wait for a subscription. Deleting your account ends a subscription bought on innernote.ai at the close of its paid period; one bought through Apple or Google must be cancelled with them.

7. Your writing

You keep ownership of everything you write. You give the app only the permission needed to process that material locally, protect it, participate in Apple backup or transfer when your settings permit, create an export when you ask, and send a page to the witness when you ask. We do not claim a licence to publish, sell, advertise against, or train a model on your journal.

You are responsible for the material you choose to enter and for having the right to include it. Do not use InnerNote to create or distribute unlawful material or to interfere with the app, its security, or other services.

8. Audio and app content

InnerNote's name, visual design, software, course structure, and supplied audio or editorial material belong to InnerNote AI Co. Ltd or its licensors. Your licence to use the app is personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable, and for lawful use of the app. You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer, or redistribute supplied content except where law permits.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep InnerNote dependable, but software can fail and devices can be lost. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. We may update, repair, remove, or replace features for security, legal, technical, or product reasons. We will not deliberately remove your local export and erasure controls without a lawful replacement.

10. Ending use

You may stop using InnerNote at any time. Settings lets you export your journal (Export your journal, as a PDF or plain text) and permanently delete InnerNote data and encryption keys from the current device. Deletion has no undo. It cannot remove an existing Apple-managed or computer backup; an older encrypted snapshot may remain until you replace or delete that backup using Apple's tools. InnerNote cannot read that snapshot. Removing the app may also delete its local data. If you have an account, Delete account in Settings removes it from our server. A subscription bought through Apple or Google must be cancelled separately with them.

We may suspend access to services we operate, your account included, if required by law, needed to protect security, or prompted by serious misuse. This does not give us access to journal content because InnerNote's systems do not receive the journal database or its encryption key.

11. Responsibility

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your mandatory consumer rights.

Within the limits allowed by law, InnerNote is provided for personal use and InnerNote AI Co. Ltd is not responsible for losses caused by device loss, deletion without an export, unauthorised device access, App Store failures, or uses of the app outside these terms. If defective digital content damages a device or other digital content because we failed to use reasonable care and skill, your statutory remedies remain available.

12. Law and changes to these terms

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom or another country, you keep any mandatory protections and rights to bring a claim that your local law gives you.

We may revise these terms when the service, law, or our suppliers change. The app will identify the current version and, where a change materially affects your rights, we will give reasonable notice in the app or on innernote.ai. Continuing to use the app after that notice means the revised terms apply.
